Sonrise Christian offers preschool

Rebecca Womack, a longtime Sisters resident who recently moved back to Sisters after nearly six years in Colorado, will lead the early education program for three- and four-year-olds at Sonrise Christian for the 2002-2003 school year.

Womack, whose husband has returned as an editor and author for Multnomah Publishers, taught three years while in Colorado at Colorado Springs Christian School including a class for three-year-olds last year.

"My goals include developing the early education program and giving it direction for the future, along with the work of developing the youngsters spiritually, academically and physically," said Womack.

Dan Cole, in his second year as principal at Sonrise, recognized Womack's background as being a key to the program's success.

She is the mother of five children whom she homeschooled for much of their elementary school years.

Her education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Child Development and Family Relations and a minor in psychology at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina.

"I will be working on the basics of academics with the children, keeping the learning fun so that the kids will develop into life-long learners," said Womack. "With the little ones I think it is also important to help them understand that God has made them unique and special."

Three of Womack's children are still at home and will be attending Sisters High School. They are Lena (16), Byron (15) and Harrison (14). McKibben (19) and Foard (18) remain in Colorado.

"We're glad to be back in Sisters and I'm excited to serve in this community after having lived here so many years," she said.

Three-year-olds will attend from 8 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and four-year-olds will be scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 to 11 a.m.

School begins September 3, but students may still enroll for the school year by contacting the school at 549-4133 or stopping by the Sisters Community Church.
