A mellow, end-of-summer crowd, enjoyed chicken, hamburgers, wursts and jazz and blues music at last Saturday's barbecue at the Camp Sherman Store.
Owner Roger White was busy grilling burgers while exchanging pleasantries with several hundred evening guests.
People spread out at tables and the grassy area outside the store under a clear and warm evening sky to enjoy their meal and exchange greetings with friends. Ted Brainard, Gary Flaherty and Blaise Wilk of Gasoline Alley played in the background.
Author and photographer Charles Blakeslee signedcopies of his book, "Wild and Beautiful Crater Lake National Park," which has been selected as the official book of the Centennial celebration at Crater Lake.
Blakeslee and his wife Mary lived in Bend for 23 years before moving to Anacortes, Washington, last year.
Lange Winery, Dundee, Oregon, was represented at the barbecue, with a table featuring red and white wines. Don Lange maintains a vacation home at Camp Sherman's Metolius Meadows.
A special treat were the desserts offered by the Hasty Search and Rescue Team members. Fresh waffle ice cream cones and brownie sundaes were a hit with the large crowd. Money collected goes into the auxiliary fund and is used to purchase needed batteries, ropes, uniforms, bottled water and other equipment items, said team leader Mark Foster.
