Outlaws manhandle Madras

The No. 2-ranked Sisters Outlaws paid a visit to Madras on Friday the 13th, where they mauled the White Buffaloes by a 47-14 score.

Coach Bob Macauley was humble in his assessment of the contest.

"It was a good game -- everybody got to play," he said. "The rankings don't mean anything until later in the year."

Sisters came out of the gate strong and got on the score board by taking the opening kickoff and driving 75 yards in eight plays. Seth Teague carried six times and accounted for 57 yards on the drive.

Quarterback Pat Burke hit Matt Harp with a 14-yard pass for the touchdown.

Conner Burck sacked Buffaloes quarterback Devon Reese for an 11-yard loss on second down, and the defense held Madras to three-and-out. On the second play of the Outlaws' second possession, Seth Teague went 56 yards on an option for their second touchdown. The kick by Alan Dale made the score 13-0.

The defense again got in on the act.

On the White Buffaloes' second possession, Ryan Harper picked up a fumble and went 19 yards to score for a 20-0 lead halfway through the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Seth Teague ran three yards for a TD with six minutes to go. Andy Macauley intercepted a pass and returned it 63 yards for a 34-0 halftime lead.

"We called off the dogs in the second half," acknowledged the coach. "In fact, we didn't even play the dogs. We only ran 23 plays in the first half, and had 34 points. Their coach knew that we weren't trying to run up the score, and he appreciated it."

The score gave Macauley a chance to provide younger players some game experience.

"The JVs played the entire half, and they played well," he said. "Brandon O'Brien and Tommy Purvis played a good game on defense."

Ryan Harper had touchdown runs of 23 and 25 yards in the second half.

Madras quarterback Devon Reese hooked up with Craig Weigand on a broken play for a 42-yard touchdown pass. The White Buffs added another score with 23 seconds left in the game to round out the scoring.

Madras ran the ball 40 times for 115 yards. Reese was 12 of 31 for 97 yards and one interception.

Offensively, the Outlaws controlled the game on the ground, rushing 35 times for 297 yards. Seth Teague led the ground assault with 15 carries for 198 yards. Ryan Harper had seven carries for 59 yards, and two rushing TDs, (along with the fumble returned for a score).

Quarterback Pat Burke, who had carried the offense against Burns with a 200-yard passing game, finished four for seven for 48 yards and one touchdown.

"We're trying to be a passing team," said Coach Macauley. "But with the defense and the rushing attack being so effective, it wasn't necessary."

The Outlaws next visit non-league foe Central to take on the Panthers for the first time in their new high school football stadium on Friday, September 20, at 7 p.m.
