Outlaws roll over Philomath Warriors

The No. 2 ranked Sisters football team continued to look impressive last week by rolling up a big lead and then cruising to a 35-8 win over Philomath on Friday, September 27.

The Outlaws began the scoring on their second possession by putting together a 53-yard drive in seven plays. Ryan Harper took the option and ran 30 yards for the key play. Quarterback Pat Burke capped the drive by hitting Jawan Davis with a 10-yard touchdown pass, and the home team had a 7-0 lead.

"We started off with some penalties, a couple of drops, and a fumble, but we got on track," said Coach Bob Macauley.

The defense held and the Warriors were forced to punt. Seth Teague turned in a sparkling 35-yard punt return, and the Outlaws were in business at the 37. Three plays later, Teague bounced outside and scored on a six-yard run to make it 14-0.

The offense put together a 78-yard drive in seven plays on the next possession to take a commanding 21-0 lead. A 31-yard run by Teague and a 12-yard pass to Seann Igoe were key plays that culminated in a 21-yard screen pass to Teague for the touchdown.

The defense broke the game open in the second half with two explosive interception returns for scores. Ryan Harper returned his pick 20 yards and Seth Teague scored his third touchdown of the game with a 62-yard return. The Outlaws led 35-0 at the half and cruised from there.

"We had a 12-play, 52-yard drive in the second half, but we missed a field goal. We then substituted liberally in the second half. The JV got a lot of playing time on offense," said Macauley. "Our defense played well for the entire game, and that was valuable experience for us. Philomath has some good players, but we put some pressure on their quarterback."

The Outlaws defense recorded seven sacks, while Andy Macauley led the defensive charge with a season-high 15 tackles.

On offense, quarterback Pat Burke was 10-for-16 with 85 yards and one touchdown. Sisters ground out 193 yards rushing.

Seth Teague gained 116 yards on nine carries for a whopping 12.9 yards per carry. Ryan Harper rushed four times for another 43 yards.

Next up for the Outlaws is a visit to Stayton.

"They are a very good team -- very athletic. They will be the best team that we've played so far this year," said Coach Macauley. "Every team in the Capital Conference won last week.

"We've got some tough league games ahead of us."
