Sisters' Habitat for Humanity chapter has been extraordinarily successful, building 18 homes for local residents with many more under construction.
All that work requires a lot of volunteers to pound nails, paint, hang doors and do all the other tasks that go into putting up or refurbishing a house.
The organization is in desperate need of fresh volunteers to pitch in. Virtually anybody can help; there's work to suit any skill level or physical condition.
"One thing that people don't realize is that you don't have to be physically strong," said volunteer Lee Kupchak.
He noted that most volunteers are of retirement age.
Lack of knowledge or experience shouldn't be a deterrent.
"There are plenty of people to help them," Kupchak said.
While anyone is welcome, Kupchak and building committee chair Larry Ellis noted that the organization ideally hopes to find people willing to lead task teams on job sites.
Ellis hopes to find some volunteers willing to recruit help, find materials and tools and supervise work.
Habitat would also like to find a volunteer coordinator who can recruit and organize helpers.
But those are ideal aspirations and Habitat workers will take all the help they can get -- even if it's a tradesman offering his expertise on a limited basis.
"A day here and a day there they could give us would be great," Kupchak said.
Labor is not the only way Sisters residents can pitch in.
"If people have tools they'd like to donate, boy, we'd sure use them," said Ellis.
