Judy Trego took her seat on the Sisters City Council on Thursday, October 17.
Trego was appointed to serve out the term of Steve Wilson, who stepped down to move outside the city limits. Trego will serve through December 31, 2004.
Trego, an eight-year resident of Sisters, serves with the Community Action Team of Sisters (CATS), developing the organization's youth mentoring program.
In making the appointment, Mayor Deb Kollodge noted that, "the program has been so successful that other communities have taken notice and have asked Judy to come to their communities and implement it."
Trego is committed to community involvement. though she has a particular interest in issues of economic development and affordable housing. She said she has no agenda coming on to the council.
"I don't have a narrow view or one issue I want to work on," she said. "I just want to help out."
Trego said she believes the council can have an impact on economic development and housing issues by supporting groups that are active in addressing those issues, such as the Chamber of Commerce, CATS, and Habitat for Humanity.
"Learning how we can support those efforts is one of the things I'm going to focus on doing," she said.
Trego was the only candidate for the appointment. She said she was truly interested in the position and did not have to be recruited in, as often happens with empty council seats in Sisters.
"I felt like it was something I needed to step up and do," she said.
