Sisters resident teaches communication

Three workshops on "Communicating Compassionately" will be offered from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on November 6, 13 and 20 in Room 151 of the Boyle Education Center at Central Oregon Community College.

The workshops are free; the public is invited to attend one or all three classes.

Bryn Hazell of Sisters will introduce the skills involved in "nonviolent communication" -- speaking and listening in a way that inspires compassion and increases the likelihood of peaceful resolution and quality connections.

Hazell has 20 years' experience in television news.

"It has improved every relationship and nearly every interaction in my life," said Hazell, who has practiced NVC for the last several years.

Hazell will present an overview of NVC and then participants will practice different techniques in each of the workshops.

The techniques were developed by Dr. Marshall Rosenberg and have been taught to teachers, counselors, health care providers, mediators, business managers, and prison inmates and guards.

The workshops are offered in cooperation with COCC's Changing Directions program and the Human Development department. For information, call 549-1556.
