News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The SOAR Superbowl Raffle has reached over $4,000 in the first month of ticket sales.
"People who have purchased tickets for this middle school sports fund-raiser are excited about the quality of the package," said SOAR board member Bonnie Malone.
That package includes airfare and lodging with two tickets to the January 21 Superbowl. The addition of two tickets for Sea World and the San Diego Zoo has enhanced sales, Malone reported.
SOAR hopes to raise $10,000 through the raffle sales, which will allow the recreation district to maintain a low student fee for all middle school sports.
With a population of 305 students in Sisters Middle School, SOAR had 248 students (82 percent) registered for sports this fall.
SOAR staff and board members are very enthusiastic about this turnout and hope to continue making the recreation district's sports programs available to any child who wants to participate.
"The fee for each child pays about half of the cost to SOAR for sports programs," said Tom Coffield, Managing Director of SOAR. "With this raffle, we will be able to keep popular sports programs available for our kids."
SOAR had added both soccer and baseball to the schedule.
"These are two very popular sports for middle school children, and we're happy to be able to offer them," Coffield said.
Superbowl Raffle tickets are available at Fotos in a Flash, Ray's Food Place, The Pony Express and SOAR.
