Sisters pastor Rodger Hall has come out of retirement to found Christ's Church of New Beginnings, which meets at Sisters Elementary School.

Hall has a long history of ministry in Sisters.

Hall founded the local chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Cowboys, Inc. in 1976. Hall, then minister of the First Church of Christ in Sisters, had learned of the Christian cowboy organization from a professional cowboy in Redmond. Hall, who enjoyed roping calves while not in the pulpit, felt a need to offer guidance to rodeo cowboys.

While they were regular church-goers in the off season, they found no time for worship while going to rodeos in the busy summer months.

Ordained in 1966, Pastor Hall has answered various calls to the ministry. In 1968, he and his wife Sue, four children, and assorted horses moved to Sisters where he accepted the pastorship of Sisters Church of Christ, serving for 16 years.

During that time, their lives became part of the texture of Sisters.

Their daughter Cheurice was crowned queen of the Sisters Rodeo in 1983. Hall served as defense counsel in the Sisters Court of Honor, begun in November 1968 by a board of Sisters dignitaries, including Justice Robert Foley, Deschutes County juvenile judge and Mayor L. C. Tatum.

The honor court was an effort to quell the rising number of juvenile offenses in Sisters ... to wit: A young lady was brought before the bench by a citizen's arrest -- citing her for smoking in public. Marlboros, mind you.

Hall has recorded four gospel albums and led congregations in Missouri, California, and Hawaii.

Today he has come full circle and out of retirement. After much prayer and encouragement, he is once again a pastor, and he and the love of his life are celebrating 41 years of marriage and have six grandchildren.

Christ's Church of New Beginnings meets Sunday morning at Sisters Elementary School at 10:30 a.m. Bible Study is on Wednesday evenings. Call 923-7360 for further information.
