Trails plan to be unveiled

Volunteers from the Sisters Community Trails Committee have been working on a plan to develop a network of commuter and recreational trails within the greater Sisters area.

Committee members have completed a draft plan proposing a network of 36 trails, totaling 143 miles. The plan also discusses how the trails might be funded, constructed, managed and maintained.

Community members may weigh in on the draft plan at a Sisters Community Trails Committee Open House at Sisters Elementary School, 611 E. Cascade, on Monday, March 17. The open house runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Presentations explaining the draft trail plan are scheduled for 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. In between, participants may peruse maps showing where proposed trails are planned. Community members are welcome to talk to Trails Committee members, ask them questions and give suggestions.

The proposed trails will offer residents pathways for walking, biking, horseback riding and other non-motorized modes of travel between their homes, schools, town and surrounding public lands.

Once Sisters area residents have weighed in, the committee will incorporate this input into a final plan that will become a blueprint and foundation for building and maintaining the Sisters Community Trails.
