To the Editor:

Pride and joy in being an American citizen includes much more than patriotism.

Leadership and responsibility, American ingenuity and know-how, making tough, crucial international decisions and following through represent today.

Our "Uncle Sam" is on the job, competent, strong and demonstrating to the world that when you threaten or attack the American eagle you get back the beak and claws.

The state of our homeland security is good; civil defense, we have been reminded since 9-11, is very important. And a good defense requires a strong offense, so remember to support our troops.

While we think and act globally we must also do the same locally. Our economy will eventually recover. While deficits are a concern we will survive and continue to do so with the highest standard of living on earth.

There is much more work to be done. Enemies abound and we should continue to deal with them severely, showing America's enemies (who have sworn to murder and destroy us) a line they will no longer cross!

To the Editor:

Two weekends ago we had the privilege of attending the Reno Jazz Festival at the University of Nevada, Reno, in order to witness the performances of the the Sisters High School jazz band and the Middle School jazz combo.

It was a thrill to see the camaraderie and esprit de corps of the musicians in each group as they worked to earn high ratings in the festival competition, which they did.

The Sisters community is fortunate to be represented by such talented and responsible young people and their capable tutor, Jody Henderson.

To the Editor:

I would like to thank Benton Urquhart and his family for returning my lost coin purse to me.

It's wonderful that people in Sisters are so honest.
