Booth Fire spreads west and north

Thursday, August 21, 10 a.m.

The Booth Fire, burning approximately 3,000 acres near Highway 20, is raging on the west side, spreading toward Hogg Rock and Hoodoo Ski Area. The fire has also spread north and spotted to the south.

Firefighters are battling the blaze today with dozers, engines, hand crews and helicopters, according to Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch.

A precautionary evacuation notification has occurred in the Black Butte Ranch area. Black Butte Ranch has not been ordered to evacuate.

The Governor has invoked the Conflagration Act and structural task forces are in place at Suttle Lake Camp Ground, Santiam Lodge, Hoodoo, Blue Lake, Camp Tamarack at Dark Lake, Suttle Lake Resort, Black Butte Ranch and the Methodist Youth Camp.

Precautionary evacuations have taken place around the fire area. These include: Camps Tamarack, Caldera, and Davidson as well as the following campgrounds: Blue, East, Link Creek, Round, Long, Square, Jack, South Shore, Scout, and Blue Bay. Big Lake Youth Camp, Hoodoo Ski Area and Lost Lake Campgrounds have been evacuated as well.

Red Cross has set up an evacuation shelter at the Sisters Elementary School. Highway 20 is still closed over Santiam Pass and will be until the fire situation is not a threat to travelers.
