For the first time in the history of Sisters High School the girls soccer team has won the Capital Conference Championship.

The Lady Outlaws shut out Cascade 1-0 in an intense match up on Monday, October 20.

Rose Slavkovsky scored for Sisters in the first minute of play, sticking her shot it in the right side of the net of the left foot. The assist came from Audrey Tehan.

Sisters had 13 shots on goal and Cascade had six. The Lady Outlaws had some great opportunities to score but the Cascade keeper made some incredible saves.

"It was a very tough game," said Coach Lee Bellahdid. "We needed the win and so did they. During the game they (Cascade) tried to breakaway through the wings, but our defense did a great job in catching them in the offsides trap."

The coach said that "the defense did an excellent job under high pressure, especially in the last two minutes. It was very close play and they handled it very well."

Bellahdid was thrilled with the win but has his eyes focused on what lies ahead.

"I'm so excited about being league champions, especially for the seniors," said Lee.

"Finally, Sisters High School has won the title. We're changing the history of soccer at this high school.

"But," he said, "the season is not over. We need to keep our eyes on the competition. We're on our way to the state playoffs!"

Sisters will host Blanchet, the second place team in the league, on Tuesday, October 28.

The game will decide first and second place seeding in the state playoffs.

Game time is tentatively set for 2 p.m.

The win followed a rousing victory over the Stayton Eagles last week, a win that set up the title shot.

The Lady Outlaws team dominated Stayton in a 7-0 shutout on the Outlaws' field Thursday, October 16.

Kelly Fitzjarrell put in the first goal of the afternoon in the third minute of play. Forward Rose Slavkovsky passed the ball back to the midfield. Fitzjarrell took the pass and scored off a powerful shot that hit the top bar and dropped in for the goal.

Slavkovsky scored the second and third goals for Sisters with assists from Rosita Rérat and Liz Dale, respectively.

The Lady Outlaws led 3-0 at the half.

In the 14th minute of play in the second half Sisters scored off a corner kick. Maren Burck was waiting in the middle for the kick from Krista Pagano.

"It was a beautiful header," said coach Lee Bellahdid. "The ball was high and Maren jumped and put the ball down into the net."

Midfielder Audrey Tehan put in the next two goals for Sisters.

Whitney Hamberger scored the seventh and final goal for the Lady Outlaws.

Sisters had 35 shots on goal and Stayton had zero.

"Our passing was very good," said Bellahdid, "and in the second half we did much better at finishing."

Just three days earlier the girls played at Molalla. Sisters tied the Lady Indians 1-1 in an action packed evening game under the lights.

Rose Slavkovsky scored Sisters' only goal of the game in the first half of the match-up.

The shot was placed into the right side of the net off an assist from Maren Burck.

Sisters led 1-0 until the last 20 minutes of the game. Molalla tied it up off a corner kick that was headed into the net.

The clock ticked down and the match ended in a 1-1 tie.
