Local man indicted in pistol whipping incident

Ronald Guy Williams, 38, of Sisters, is under indictment in Tillamook county for second degree assault, menacing and pointing a firearm at another.

The indictment stemmed from a July 26 incident. According to Tillamook County Sheriff's Office reports, at about 4:38 p.m. Edwin Ochs, 43, of Bend, reported he had been pistol whipped in the mouth by his friend Ronald Williams. Williams left the area in a vehicle and could not be found.

Ochs reported that Williams had a German Shepherd dog which had bitten his girlfriend twice. Ochs allegedly told Williams "that the dog needs to be put down."

Williams reportedly told Ochs "I'll put you down, I'll shoot you," then went to his truck.

Williams allegedly pulled out a gun, pointed it at Ochs, then spun around and hit Ochs with the butt of the gun.

Ochs was checked out at a local hospital and released.

On September 17, the Tillamook Grand Jury returned an indictment against Ronald Williams charging him with assault in the second degree, menacing, and pointing a firearm at another.

An arrest warrant was served by the Deschutes County Sheriffs Office on Williams near Sisters. Williams was transferred to Tillamook County on October 21.

If convicted, Williams could face a minimum sentence of 70 months in prison for the Assault II because it is a Measure 11 offense.

The maximum penalty is 10 years.

Williams was granted a third- party conditional release by Tillamook Circuit Court with the following conditions:

  • He must reside in Sisters.
  • He must submit to random search.
  • He has a curfew of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • He is not allowed to enter the City of Bend.
  • He is not to consume or possess any intoxicating beverage or go to any bars.

A jury trial is set for January 2004.
