City Hall design proposals flood in

Architects' proposals to design Sisters' new City Hall flooded in to City Manager Eileen Stein's office last week.

Stein reported receiving 16 responses to the city's Request for Proposals (RFP) advertisement for design services. Proposals came from firms in Bend, Portland and Eugene and elsewhere in Oregon.

Scott Steele Associates, the designer of the new Sisters High School, submitted a proposal, as did HGE, Inc. of Coos Bay. HGE, Inc. was the city's engineer on Sisters' sewer and water system projects.

Mark Seder and Associates of Portland, who assisted the city with its Urban Renewal Plan, and Neal Huston and Associates of Bend, who helped design future city maintenance shops, also submitted proposals.

The large number of proposals has left the city council and staff with a hefty pile of work to plow through during the holiday season.

"We've got a lot of work to do," Stein said. "We'll spend the holidays taking a look at these and get this down to a short list."

The city will then probably conduct interviews of final candidates, Stein said.

Stein hopes to have an architect chosen by the end of January.

The city plans to build a city hall facility on the site of the former Sisters Middle School.

The city purchased a portion of that site from the school district for $291,600.

The city envisions a facility of about 5,000 square feet.
