Multnomah Publishers eliminates 15 positions

Multnomah Publishers of Sisters has announced the elimination of 15 positions within the organization.

The downsizing is due to an attempt to streamline the company's business.

"In light of our effort to adjust to a refined market strategy of publishing fewer books and to contend with the publishing industry's economic conditions, we determined it was necessary to restructure the company for the future," said Don Jacobson, president and publisher, in a press release from January 8.

Kyle Cummings, senior vice president, was not available for comment despite repeated attempts by The Nugget.

In the November 26, 2003 edition of The Nugget Cummings said, in response to an inquiry about layoffs, that Multnomah was revising its operating plan. He also noted that a soft economy had prohibited the firm from moving forward with its proposed "campus" idea on the acreage along Camp Polk Road.

Multnomah Publishers specializes in Christian booksa had a major success with the book "The Prayer of Jabez" in 2000.

The fiscal year ends June 30 for Multnomah Publishers and the company is hoping to end on a profitable note despite the dissonant chords sounded by an unfavorable economy.
