"A Celtic Sisters Act" will be held on Saturday, March 6, at 7 p.m. at Sisters High School auditorium.
This will be the 11th annual production of the community talent show.
The event will showcase a variety of acts with themes from Scotland and Ireland. Entertainers will include the High Desert Celtic Country Dancers performing a Scottish country dance and a Highland fling; students from Pat Cook's School of Dance and Central Oregon School of Baton.
The famous Sisters Elementary School men teachers will perform. The singing Sisters Elementary School teachers will offer an Irish lullaby and Rick Slavkovsky will present a Robert Service recitation, "The Cow Juice Cure."
Instrumental acts will include harp, hammered dulcimer, flute, fiddles, guitars, mandolin, the "McAnvil Blasters" performing a medley of Celtic songs, and a selection of Irish tunes performed by "Fiddlesticks" with a washtub bass added to the band. The program will open with bagpipe music from Mark Macintosh.
Third grade teacher Kelly Powell will emcee the program with assistance from students Chelsea McConnville and Cassie Hernandez. Melvin Herberger will add humor while distributing door prizes.
Refreshments will be available during intermission.
The event, sponsored by Sisters Good Samaritan Ministries (GSM), will share proceeds with GSM of Masaka, Uganda, Africa to help purchase a well for the school and orphanage in Masaka.
The orphanage cares for 100 orphans and the school, kindergarten through grade 12, has 750 students. Since hauling water became more of a hardship with the growing number of orphans and students, a local company recently dug and completed a well for the children.
Other Sisters Act programs have provided funds for land, building materials, concrete floor, and school desks for the Masaka Elementary School and bunk beds for the orphanage dormitory.
Proceeds will also be shared with Sisters High School leadership scholarship programs.
Figaro's Pizza of Sisters will donate 10 percent of its sales from March 6 to the Sisters Act.
Tickets are on sale at the Mountain Man Trading Post, The Pony Express, and at the door the night of the show -- adults $8 and children 12 and under $4.
Seating is limited. Doors open at 6 p.m.
