A nearly full house cheered and clapped along with the music during "A Celtic Sisters Act" held on Saturday, March 6, at the Sisters High School auditorium.
The 11th annual community talent show raised funds for a well at a Ugandan school and for some Sisters school programs.
The event showcased a variety of acts with themes from Scotland and Ireland. The High Desert Celtic Country Dancers performed a Scottish country dance and a Highland fling, offering a glimpse of real Celtic dancing.
Surreal Celtic dancing was provided by an assortment of gender-bending teachers under the moniker "Bad Plaid."
Students from Pat Cook's School of Dance and Central Oregon School of Baton performed. Mark Macintosh opened the show with a bagpipe performance.
Third grade teacher Kelly Powell emceed the program with assistance from students Chelsea McConnville and Cassie Hernandez, who provided a litany of corny knock-knock jokes.
The event was sponsored by Sisters Good Samaritan Ministries (GSM). Proceeds were shared with GSM of Masaka, Uganda, Africa to help purchase a well for the school and orphanage in Masaka.
The orphanage cares for 100 orphans and the school, kindergarten through grade 12, has 750 students. Other Sisters Act programs have provided funds for land, building materials, concrete floor, and school desks for the Masaka Elementary School.
