News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Community Choir of Sisters will present its spring concert on Saturday April 3, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 4, at 2 p.m.
Performances will be given at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Sisters.
The featured work in this Palm Sunday weekend concert will be the "Requiem" by Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924), French composer, organist, teacher and choir director. With this "Requiem" composed in 1877, Fauré joined Verdi, Brahms, Mozart and others in setting to music the traditional Roman Catholic Mass for the Dead with its text in Latin.
However, the Fauré "Requiem" is much shorter, utilizes a smaller orchestra, and is better suited to smaller performing groups such as the Sisters Community Choir.
An English translation of the text will be printed in the program. George Larson, the choir's director, will offer commentary to place the music in perspective.
There will be a special guest appearance of the Dove String Quartet.
Other songs will be presented by the choir and performances by soloists and ensembles from the choir.
Admission is free; donations are gratefully accepted.
