News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Christian Green won medalist honors with a five-under-par 67 to lead the Outlaws to their first place Capital Conference victory on Tuesday, April 20.
The match was held at the Mallard Creek Golf Course in Lebanon.
According to coach Jeff Barton, Christian's score represents one of the lowest scores in the state so far this season.
"Christian birdied four of the first seven holes and many of his approaches were inside five feet," said Barton.
David Green and Scott Barton tied for fourth place with rounds of 73. Scott Little continued his solid play and finished with a 79. Danny Spezza rounded out the scoring with a 92.
Coach Barton said, "What is so extraordinary is that these scores were shot in horrendous conditions! There was a lot of rain and cold temperatures."
The Outlaws posted a team score of 292 to tie the all-time team record set two years ago on the same course.
Stayton placed second with 314 and Sweet Home third with 332.
On Friday, April 23, nine teams participated in the first leg of the Central Oregon Classic held at the Prineville Golf and Country Club. Sisters and Summit finished in a tie for first with a team score of 277.
Bend placed third (279), Redmond fourth (293), and Crook County fifth (297). Other team scores were Mt. View (309), Madras (319), La Pine (331) and Burns (363).
"The Central Oregon Classic is the premier golf tournament for local schools during the regular season every year. It's a par 65 course and ranked as the toughest nine-hole course in the state," said Barton.
Michael Lewandowski of Bend High shot a two-under-par 63 to earn medalist honors.
"That's the only score under par I've seen in three years," said Barton. "To be at par or around par on this course is phenomenal."
Christian Green (Sisters) and Ryan Patterson of Summit finished just three strokes behind Lewandowski with scores of 66. Scott Barton (Sisters) and Chris Contino of Summit tied for fourth with both players carding a 67.
David Green shot a 68, Scott Little a 76 and Spencer Ross finished with 79.
It was the first time Little and Ross had played the course.
Coach Barton was pleased with their results and felt both players did well.
