Dominant Outlaws win district golf title

The Outlaw golfers once again proved they are the best in their league by claiming the district title for the sixth consecutive year. The tournament was held at the Mallard Creek Golf Course in Lebanon on Monday and Tuesday, May 10-11.

The Sisters boys finished the tournament with a two-day team total of 597, an amazing 63 strokes ahead of runner-up Stayton which finished at 660. Molalla took third at 682, Sweet Home fourth at 713, Cascade fifth at 755 and North Marion sixth at 781.

Four of the five top individual finishes went to Sisters players. Christian Green and Scott Barton tied for co-medalist honors with two-day totals of 146. David Green placed third at 148 and Scott Little was fifth at 157.

Scott Little shot a season best of 77 on Tuesday and coach Jeff Barton was very pleased.

"The fourth guy is really important and Scott has been really coming along," he said. "This is so nice to see the week before state."

"The weather conditions today were perfect," said Jeff. "It was nice and warm and there was no wind. Today we just came out and took care of business."

Conditions on Monday, the first day of district, proved miserable for the Outlaws.

"We'd get a torrential downpour, it would let up and then it would start all over again," said Barton. "It was rainy, rainy, rainy. We had to tread water to get through 18 holes."

At the conclusion of day one Sisters had already taken a 31-stroke advantage over Stayton with a team total of 296.

"Any score under 300 is exceptional," said Barton, "and especially in these conditions."

Individually, Christian Green shot a two under par 70, Scott Barton a 72 and David Green finished at 74. Scott Little carded an 80 and Danny Spezza shot a 92.

Coach Barton said, "Christian finished the round with seven birdies but had a little trouble keeping the ball out of the water. Scott (Barton) has been our steadiest player. He's been at par or better the last six competitive rounds he's played."

After day one, leading by 31 strokes, Sisters was awarded the district trophy early.
