Sisters Library offers Summer Reading Program

Sisters Library is offering a series of summer reading programs for residents and visitors.

From June 5 through August 16, all children through fifth grade are invited to participate in "Discover New Trails @ Your Library." They will discover stories, music and traditions from around the world. Participants can earn a free book, a chance to win a puppet and attend free programs that feature creative, literature-based activities.

Each of the libraries in the Deschutes Public Library District will also offer three family concerts featuring storytelling, music from around the world and juggling.

Each Thursday during the Summer Reading Program, Preschool Parade Storytime programs will take place at 10:30 a.m.

All sessions feature stories, finger rhymes, lap jogs, tickles, movement skills appropriate for children ages three through six.

Parents or caregivers are required to attend with the child and encouraged to participate in all the program activities.

From June 24 through August 5, children ages six to 11 are invited to Weekly Wanders, a creative program that offers stories, crafts, and other activities from a particular country.

Weekly Wanders takes place on Thursdays at 2 p.m.

Each 45-minute Weekly Wanders program features a variety of stories, crafts, and literature-based activities.

Readers age 11 to 17 are encouraged to participate in "Get Lost! @ Your Library," the annual Teen Summer Reading Program at the Sisters Library.

A free book will be given to those who read for at least three hours and there are weekly drawings for prizes and gift certificates.

Exciting special programs at all Deschutes Public Libraries will focus on the "Get Lost" theme, such as wilderness survival, role- playing games, yoga and journal writing.

There will also be an end-of-the-summer party exclusively for the Summer Reading Program participants.
