The action promises to be hot at the 64th Sisters Rodeo. photo by Jeff Sperber Sisters is ready to open up the chutes and turn loose the 64th annual Sisters Rodeo this weekend.
The best of the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association cowboys and cowgirls will be in Sisters June 11-13.
The Sisters Rodeo Parade -- for many a highlight of the weekend -- kicks off at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, along Cascade Avenue. This year, the rodeo will welcome back the Friesian Spectacular for the traditional mid-show exhibition.
These tremendous black horses and their trainer, Clay Maier, are one of the most popular acts to ever perform at the Sisters Rodeo, according to rodeo officials. The Friesian Spectacular offers a stunning display of training and horsemanship.
There are four performances at the rodeo. Friday night is Family Night with general admission tickets sold at a discount and children under the age of 12 admitted free. Tickets for the other three shows are all reserved. On Saturday, there are two performances.
The Sunday performance has reduced ticket prices for groups of 10 or more, except in section Gold 1 and box seats.
A Buckaroo Breakfast is served outdoors at the rodeo grounds Sunday morning from 7 to 11 a.m.
A cowboy church service is held at the grounds at 9 a.m.
The Sisters Rodeo originated 64 years ago when 10 local couples pooled $10,000 to produce the show on land next to where Sisters Airport now sits. Two years later, they purchased land on the west end of town and held the rodeo there for the next 34 years.
Beard Rodeo supplies Sisters with the superior quality broncos, bulls and steers that have created sure-thing dust-kicking battles between the cowboys and livestock for a dozen years. Beard stock commonly makes it to the yearly PRCA National Finals in Las Vegas -- testament to the fine quality and competitive attitude of these animals.
