Local golfers can take a chance on a $1 million hole-in-one while helping to fund new community ball fields this weekend.
On Friday, July 30 through Sunday, August 1 the Sisters Kiwanis Club Community Service Foundation will hold its annual $1 million Hole-in-One Community Ballfield Fund-raising contest at the Aspen Lakes Golf Course, five miles north of Sisters off Highway 126 on Camp Polk Road.
Five major prizes, each represented by a hole and flag on a green at the Aspen Lakes Golf Course, will be available.
In addition to the $1 million hole, a golfer may land in one of the other four holes, winning a new Honda Element (donated by Bob Thomas Honda of Bend), a Mitsubishi Spyder convertible (donated by Dave Hamilton Mitsubishi of Redmond), two ATVs with trailer (donated by Central Oregon Workensport of Bend), or $40,000 (donated by Sisters Kiwanis).
Funds raised will go toward completion of the ball field complex adjacent to Sisters High School. Construction of the fields is well underway and Little League officials hope to get the fields seeded soon.
Anyone 18 and older, with the exception of professional golfers, can participate and can shoot as many golf balls as they wish. Golf balls are $1 per shot and contributions are tax deductible.
The first three days (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) will be qualifying days during which golfers whose shots land within a six-foot diameter circle can qualify for the semi-finals that will be held on Sunday afternoon, August 1.
The five semi-finalists who shoot closest to the hole on late Sunday afternoon will then advance to the finals on early Sunday evening at which time they will each have one shot to win one of the five Hole-ln-One prizes.
Should a golfer win the $1 million prize, the money will be divided 75 percent to the winner, with the remaining 25 percent being donated to the Sisters Kiwanis Foundation for the Sisters Community Ballfield Complex. In addition, $10,000 of the $40,000 cash award will be donated to the Sisters Kiwanis Foundation for the Ballfield Complex.
