Contest will raise money for children’s hospital

Ten of Sisters High School’s finest will vie for the title of Mr. SHS at the Sisters High School auditorium on Monday, February 21 at 7 p.m.

Admission to the event is $5 per person and all proceeds will go to the Doernbecher’s Children’s Hospital in Portland.

This year’s contestants are seniors Ben Bushel, Casey Pyke, Byron Womack, Brandon O’Brien, Justin Hedemark, Ford Bauer, Wesley Hodson and Matt Neilson and juniors Guy Mount and Scott Barton.

Contestants will be judged in the following areas: School involvement (they fill out a resume), evening wear, prepared interview and talent.

Talents on display in this year’s pageant vary from glow-in-the-dark basketball dribbling and production of movies and videos to singing, poetry and wrestling.

After the contestants are judged the choice is narrowed down to five young men who advance to a final interview. Judges erase all old scores and everyone starts out even.

“Doernbecher Dolly” sales will be used as a tie breaker if needed after the final interview. Dollies are simply a picture used as a fund-raising prop; they can be purchased for $1 each.

Last year’s dolly sales totaled $2,600 and this year sales have already exceeded that amount.

Along with the crowning of Mr. SHS, a prize will be awarded to Mr. Congeniality and to the best escort.
