News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Only two varsity players return to the Outlaw golf team this season. Senior Scott Little is back for his final year on the team and Scott Barton returns as a junior.
Little played in the off-season with the Central Oregon Golf Association (COGA) and, according to Coach Jeff Barton, he had a lot ofsuccess.
“He’s improved his game and will be a good leader for us this year,” Barton said.
Scott Barton also filled his time in the off-season playing a considerable amount of golf. Barton played on two All Star Teams that traveled to Portland and Fresno, California. Barton won the Portland City Junior Championship at the Rose City Golf Course and finished in the middle of the pack in Fresno.
Barton won two other major tournaments including the Big I Qualifier held at the Trysting Tree Golf Course in Corvallis and the Peter Jacobsen Tournament at the Forest Hills G.C. in Hillsboro.
The U.S. Golf Association Junior Amateur Qualifier was held in Woodburn, Oregon. Barton missed qualifying by one stroke and took third place.
Barton also placed seventh out of 120 at the Al Dropping Junior Championship held at the Hillcrest Country Club in Boise, Idaho.
The highlight of Barton’s summer was playing at the Junior World Tournament at Torrey Pines South Course in San Diego.
There are still three spots available on the varsity team and Coach Barton said the field is wide open.
Competing for the positions are Matt Fegette, Jarett Hancock, Jacob and Jeremy Evan, Billy Jacobson, Kyler Miller, Evan Mitchell, Evan Hjelmstad, Miles Johnston, Justin Dean, Travis Ehrenstrom, Richard Aimee, Arne Pierce and Kanoa James.
“We’ve got some big shoes to fill with the departure of Christian and David Green,” said Jeff Barton.
“This year we hope to be competitive.”
