News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Sisters High School girls softball team returns nine players to the varsity team and will add three talented freshmen to the roster.
Only two seniors return to the squad: All-league first baseman Cortney Peters and Crystal Jewell, who will play in the field.
Cindy Harp will spend most of her time behind the plate as catcher but will also see some time at third base. Courtney Medcalf will play both in the infield and the outfield and Michaela Bennett will be on the mound as pitcher. All three of these players return as juniors.
Four sophomores also return with experience: Katie Hughes, Becky Bremer, Courtney Overstreet and Kym Johns. These girls will share time in both the infield and the outfield and Overstreet will share duties with Harp behind the plate.
Samantha Stoneback, Camille Pedersen and J.J. Ashley, all very talented freshman players will join the team this season. Samantha will play shortstop and do some pitching. Camille will divide her time between third base and the outfield and J.J. will be in the field or giving relief to the catcher.
Bennett and Stoneback will do the bulk of the pitching for the Lady Outlaws and Peters and Bremer will fill in when needed.
New coach Doug McDonald said, “We have a lot of good athletes. They’re working hard and the future is looking bright for the program. But, we’re very young and inexperienced at the varsity level.”
