Art Stroll will feature marching band

Folks strolling through Sisters during the My Own Two Hands “Make Time” Art Stroll on Friday, April 8, will be moving to a beat that they’ve never felt before.

The MarchFourth Marching Band from Portland will be cruising the streets of Sisters, bringing their unique brand of mobile entertainment to every nook and cranny of town before heading to Bronco Billy’s Ranch Grill & Saloon for a finale.

The MarchFourth Marching Band is a 25-30 piece outfit that has evolved into a high energy, eclectic and mobile unit. The band takes a mix of Mardi Gras mayhem, Afro-beat, Mexican hustle, sultry samba, big band and gypsy folk to the streets and parks and clubs and festivals.

MarchFourth will stroll from 5 to 7 p.m. through the streets of Sisters, and will play a high energy set as the closer at Bronco Billy’s from 8:30 to 10:00 pm. .

The MarchFourth Band has been voted “Best Portland Band” in the Willamette Week Best of Portland 2004 Readers’ poll and featured on Oregon Art Beat, which claims “they have captured the hearts of thousands of Oregonians who have seen their spectacular fun-filled performances.”

Almost two years from their first show, MarchFourth has played just under 100 shows, including performances with Fleetwood Mac, No Doubt, Blink-182, Pink Martini, Southern Culture on the Skids, and many other musical acts. They have appeared at MusicfestNW, Northwest Folklife Festival, the Oregon Country Fair, PICA’s TBA Festival, OMSI, and many other festivals.

The performance is part of a weekend of activities surrounding the My Own Two Hands “Make Time” Art Stroll and Art Party andAuction.

The event raises funds for the Americana Project and art programs in Sisters schools.

Tickets for the Benefit Chili Feed and Performance Evening are $10 each ($5 for children 12 and under) and can be purchased at Paulina Springs Books and Sisters Feed & Supply in Sisters.

Tickets for the Saturday art party must be purchased in advance and are available by calling the Sisters Folk Festival Office at 549-4979.
