Women to flyfish on the Metolius River

Central Oregon Flyfishers Wild Women of the Water will host a day of flyfishing on the Metolius River on Saturday, April 2.

John Judy, local fishing expert, will provide his expertise for the free excursion. He will show the group how to collect insects from the river and match the insects to flies.

The group will meet at the Camp Sherman Store at 10 a.m.

Dress in layers and bring lunch and beverages. Weather conditions can change rapidly. For fishing gear, participants are advised to use a5-weight rod for redband trout. To fish for bull trout, a 7-weight rod is appropriate. A wading staff is absolutely essential on the Metolius, according to organizers.

Event organizers note that, “Fishing the Metolius can be tricky. And, wading the Metolius can be downright hazardous.

“This river is not the best one for your first wading experience. There are places where you can fish from the bank.”

Participants are asked to RSVP to Delores ([email protected]) or call 382-7595.
