News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Freshman Samantha Stoneback pitched a complete game two hitter as the Sisters Outlaws defeated the Sweet Home Huskies 4-2 last week — for the first time in three years.
Sisters had a big fourth inning rally and scored all four of their runs to take a 4-0 lead.
Stoneback started off the rally by reaching first base on an error. Cortney Peters stepped up to the plate and hit a double to left center to score Stoneback for the first run. Cindy Harp followed with a double to right center to score Peters. Harp moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a bunt by Courtney Metcalf. Becky Bremer followed up with a single to move Metcalf to third. Metcalf scored the fourth and final run of the inning off a fielder’s choice.
Coach Doug McDonald noted the play of catcher Becky Bremer.
“Becky’s got a fantastic arm,” said McDonald. “She gunned down three base runners in the first couple of innings and they didn’t try running after that.”
Just one day earlier Sisters lost 3-1 in their league opener against Molalla.
Stoneback pitched the entire game, struck out nine, walked one and scattered seven hits.
Molalla scored two runs in the third inning and one in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead.
Sisters came back in the sixth to score one. Camille Pederson lined to single, stole second and third base and scored on a passed ball.
Molalla threw their ace pitcher Becca Anderson, the No. 1 pitcher in the league. Anderson had nine strike outs and no walks in the game.
In spite of tough pitching Coach Doug McDonald felt his team held their own in the match up.
