Stayton edged Sisters by just one stroke to finish first with a final score of 334 at the Capital Conference Tournament held at the Arrowhead Golf Course in Molalla on Tuesday, April 5.
Sweet Home finished third at 365, Molalla fourth with 371 and North Marion fifth at 382.
Scott Barton earned medalist honors with a three-under-par 68. Scott Little carded an 83, Richard Aimee an 87, Miles Johnston a 97 and Evan Mitchell 102.
Coach Jeff Barton said, “The greens were very fast and gave us some problems. It was a good improvement for us and showed that we can contend for the league title.”
Two days later the Outlaws competed with nine other teams at the Broken Top Golf Course in Bend.
Coach Barton told The Nugget that the conditions were terribly cold and windy and more suitable for duck hunting than golf.
Scott Barton earnedmedalist honors for the third time in a row. Barton was co-medalist with Chris Contino of Summit with a score of 74. Scott Little carded an 84, Evan Mitchell an 89, Richard Aimee a 97 and Miles Johnston rounded out the scores at 106.
Team scores were: Summit (308), North Medford (325), Bend (327), Redmond (330), Pendelton (333), Sisters (334), Mt. View (347), Hermiston (353) and Crook County (366).
Barton was pleased with Evan Mitchell’sperformance: “Evan is only a freshmen and he had his season’s best showing so far. I felt he played well under the conditions.”
The coach said, “Scott (Barton) is playing at a high level right now. He’s won three tournaments in a row. He’s kind of riding a hot streak.”
Barton added, “The boys played good steady golf today. Four kids had never even seen the course and we were still able to beat some 4A schools (Crook County and Mt. View). That’s pretty good for a young team.”
