In a rebuilding year, competitiveness is the name of the game and as far as Coach Ross Kennedy can tell his boys track team understands that perfectly. The boys placed a solid fourth among 12 teams in the Sisters Rotary Track and Field Invitational Saturday, April 9.
Redmond won the meet with 155 points to edge Estacada (148). West Linn finished third with 81 and Sisters scored 63 points for fourth.
Daniel Holloman took top honors in the high jump, clearing 6-feet-2-inches for the team’s only first place of the day and also finished seventh in the triple jump (39-feet-6-inches).
Others contributed points for the team as well, including Morgan Mansker who had a season best of 13 feet in a great pole vault competition that saw the winner, Ben Cogdill of Estacada, set a new meet record with a vault of 14 feet 6 inches. Wes Hodson placed fifth with an effort of 11 feet 6 inches.
Jake Seal finished second in the triple jump (40-feet-5-inches) and took fifth in the long jump (19 feet). Cory McCaffery was only one half inch behind at 18-feet-11.5-inches to finish seventh. Byron Womack put points on the board with a personal records of 39-feet-6-inches in the shot put for eighth place and 116 feet, 11 inches in the discus for sixth place.
McCaffery also placed fifth in the 100 meters and helped teammates Matt Neilson, Daniel Holloman, and Eli Callan to a third place finish in 400 meter relay in 46.01.
Callan placed seventh in the 110 hurdles (17.76) and Stefan Redfield ran a personal best to finish sixth in the 1,500 with a time of 4:39.
