Donald “Don” James CoolJune 21, 1922 – April 6, 2005

Donald “Don” James Cool of Camp Sherman died Wednesday. He was 82.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, at Chapel in the Pines in Camp Sherman. His ashes will be interred at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

Mr. Cool was born June 21, 1922, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Joseph E. and Edna May (Howell) Cool. He served in the Marine Corps from 1941 to 1945. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor and a graduate of Portland State University. He married Clara Sorenson on September 8, 1947, in Portland.

Mr. Cool worked as a budget analyst for the Army Corps of Engineers. He retired in 1982. His interests included hunting, fishing, snow skiing, boating and traveling in his RV.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, James of Newport, Washington and Lyle of Beaverton; two daughters, Wanda Stevens of Bend and Donna Thomas of Healdsburg, California; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to either the Hospice of Redmond, Sisters and Grant County or the charity of one’s choice.
