News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Lady Outlaw golfers finished with a team score of 387 to crush their opponents in the first Capital Conference match of the season held at the Santiam Golf Course in Stayton on Tuesday, April 5.
Runner up Molalla was 44 strokes back at 431, Sweet Home third (457), Stayton fourth (473) and Blanchet fifth with 527. Cascade, Kennedy and Central all had incomplete teams.
Sister’s Kayla Miller and Christine Collier of Cascade both carded a 90 to tie for medalist honors.
Krystal Fitter turned in her best tournament round of the season just one stroke behind Miller at 91. Both Brittany Reed and MacKinzie McClain carded a 103. Stephanie Pledger finished with a 111 and Kelsey Gillespie 123.
Coach Mary Flande said, “I was pleased with the way the kids played. The scores were improved from last week both individually and as a team. I’m really pleased with the improved play of Stephanie.”
All six Sisters players finished in the top 15.
Three days later Sisters placed third at the Bend Country Club under cool and breezy conditions.
Summit won the tournament with a score of 323, Bend took second at 341 and Roseburg was fourth with 396.
Molly Black of Summit was the medalist for the day with an individual score of 75. Kayla Miller placed seventh overall and Krystal Fitter placed 11th.
Miller carded a 91 to lead the Lady Outlaws. Krystal Fitter shot a 93, MacKinzie McClain 104, Brittany Reed 107 and Alexis Wainwright a 114.
Coach Flande was pleased with Krystal Fitter’s performance.
“Krystal played a great round of golf,” said Flande. “Her score of 93 doesn’t really speak to the great round she was having. She got into a little trouble on No. 11, but without that hole she would have had a career low round. She’s been working very hard on her game and I think great things are yet to come for her.
“I was very happy with the efforts of all of the girls,” said Flande. “It was a chilly day and conditions were not the best. This (BCC) is a very tough course. There are some trees out there that can reach out and cause a lot of problems.
“There was something positive about each players’ game,” added Flande. “I’m confident that each and every player will work on the areas that caused them problems today and we’ll come out and play solid again next week.”
Up next for Sisters is the district preview at the Arrowhead Golf Course in Molalla on April 14.
