Girls track team second in home meet

Windy and cool conditions didn’t keep competitors from some hot marks at the annual Sisters Rotary Track and Field Invitational Saturday, April 9 at Sisters High School.

Sisters finished second among the 12 schools competing with 78 points. 4A power West Linn dominated the meet with 138 points to claim the team trophy.

Jenny Boswell raced to a great mid-season time of 15.74 in the 100 hurdles and blew away the field in a time of 46.86 in the 300 intermediate hurdles. Both times may be 3A bests for the season, according to head coach Ross Kennedy.

The Outlaws had no second place finishers, but had many other strong performances on the day, including Anna Pepperling’s third place finish in the pole vault at 8-feet-6-inches. Molly Van Acker picked up third place ribbons in the 100 (13.97) and the triple jump, 31-feet-11 inches. Freshman Kelsey Neilson was next in 31-feet-4 inches.

Cammy Jacobson also cleared 8-feet-6-inches, but with more misses, to finish fifth. MacKenzie Williams finished sixth at eight feet even.

Nahtice Nield, in her first year of hurdling, came through with a fourth place finish in the 300 hurdles (54.7) and seventh in the 100 hurdles (18.8).

The distance crew picked up points for the team behind the running of Kaitlin McAlister, Jena Rickards, Erin Gough and Iris Powell. Rickards finished sixth in the 1,500 (5:40), McAlister eighth in the 1,500 (5:48.9) and 3,000 (12:57.2), Gough seventh in the 3,000 (12:54), and Powell seventh in the 800 (2:36.4).

Jackie Grittman was the only thrower to crack the top eight, finishing eighth in the discus with a toss of 90-feet-10-inches.

Other schools participating in the meet included Redmond, Estacada, Bonanza, La Pine, Mountain View, Burns, Philomath, Lakeview, Culver, Madras, and Gilchrist. Members of the Sisters Rotary Club provided tremendous volunteer and financial support for the event, according to Kennedy.

“We can’t say enough about the wonderful support the Rotary Club gives us each year,” he said.
