News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Lady Outlaws golf team is tearing up the links.
The girls won their Capital Conference match on Tuesday, April 5 and also claimed top honors at the District Preview in Molalla just two days later.
Tuesday’s match at Mallard Creek in Sweet Home went forward in cool, windy, rainy weather but the conditions didn’t deter Sisters, which finished first with a team score of 385. Molalla was runner up with 412 and Sweet Home was third at 421. Cascade and Stayton both had incomplete teams.
Kayla Miller led Sisters with an individual score of 91. Krystal Fitter was one stroke behind Miller at 92. MacKinzie McClain carded a 96, Brittany Reed a 106 and Stephanie Pledger rounded out the scoring at 117.
Coach Mary Flande said, “MacKinzie scored her personal best in the tournament today. She struggled a little on a very difficult front nine due to the weather conditions with 52 but turned in a solid 44 on the back.”
Flande told The Nugget it was great to have three players down in the 90s.
“Mallard Creek has a tremendous amount of hazards and I think we found a few of them today,” said Flande.
“The course was very wet and soggy due to all the rain in the valley. I think the kids played pretty well considering the wet conditions of the course.”
Two days later Sisters finished first out of nine teams in the district preview held at the Arrowhead Golf Course in Molalla. The Outlaws finished 35 strokes ahead of Molalla with a score of 376.
Sisters’ Krystal Fitter carded an 88 to take medalist honors. One stroke back at 89 was Kayla Miller. MacKinzie McClain scored a 96, Brittany Reed a 103, Stephanie Pledger a 119 and Kelsey Gillespie finished with 131.
It was a great day for Fitter who not only medaled for the tournament but turned in her personal best.
“Krystal played a very solid round of golf today,” said Flande. “MacKinzie turned in her second match in a row with a score of 96 to tie her personal best.”
