News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Sisters community lost one of its most committed activists last Saturday when Jim Mitchell died after a long and courageous battle with illness.
The Nugget lost a dedicated and talented freelance reporter.
Jim was deeply involved in the life of this community in a wide range of areas — Kiwanis, teen substance abuse prevention and more. He brought that breadth and depth of interest to bear in his reporting.
Jim tackled a prodigious workload; he couldn’t let a good story pass him by — or wait till next week. Perhaps he had a sense that time was short. There was a sense of urgency in his desire to chronicle the life of his community.
All his stories were “important” — whether they involved a government initiative, a school music program or an account of one individual’s adventures.
He was a man of great integrity. We at The Nugget trusted his reporting and those on whom he reported trusted him to be fair and truthful in spirit as well as in fact.
The dozens of friends who gathered Sunday night to honor Jim Mitchell honored a life well lived and work well done.
The staff of The Nugget joins in that tribute. Thanks, Jim.
