News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Yet another Sisters area property owner has filed a Measure 37 claim for value lost because of land use classification changes.
David Hurtley has filed a claim of nearly $600,000 for his property at 69090 Hurtley Ranch Road in the Cloverdale area east of Sisters. Hurtley is seeking either compensation for the lost value of his property or a waiver to subdivide his 29.86 acres into 15 lots of about two acres each.
In his claim against Deschutes County, he showed the value of the land if subdivided as $27,619 an acre while in its presentclassification of Exclusive Farm use it is valued at $5,289 an acre.
Documents submitted with the claim state that Hurtley purchased the property by contract in May of 1972 and recorded a warranty deed in May of 1979.
The Hurtley claim is one of 34 filed to date with Deschutes County since the first of the year with a total approaching $100 million. Ten of those claims are in the Sisters area.
“There has been no determination on the validity of any of these claims,” said Tom Anderson, director of community development for the county. That decision is part the process.”
