Tia Berg, a Sisters Middle School student, will represent her country as a People To People Student Ambassador.
Berg will explore Europe for 20 days this summer as a member of the Central Oregon delegation in a program founded by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Berg is raising funds to make the trip. She is seeking sponsors and donations of cans and plastic bottles.
The bottles and cans may be dropped off at 392 W. Main Ave. opposite the car wash. Cash donations may be made to Tia Berg or People to People, P.O. Box 2165, Sisters, OR 97759.
An account has been set up at Bank of the Cascades (Tia Berg/People to People) till the end of June.
The Sisters middle schooler will earn academic credit while learning about the culture and history of the places she visits.
The Eiffel Tower, the Cathedral of Notre Dame and more are on the itinerary. She will stay with a host family.
President Eisenhower founded the People to People program in 1956 believing that interaction between ordinary people could strengthen cultural bonds and promote peaceful relations.
