Awards roll in for 2004 yearbook staff

The Sisters High School yearbook staff continues to maintain its reputation for excellence and as a result keeps winning top awards from publishing companies and universities across the nation.

Yearbook advisor Diana Prichard recently received notice from Northwest Scholastic Press, sponsor of Yearbook Olympics, that three of her 2004 yearbook staff members had won awards for design and photography.

Ashlee Francis won Best of Category for a feature page entitled “In the Hot Zone.” The judge’s comment was, “It is a must-see page in this book.”

Jesse Prichard won an Award of Excellence for division page design and Conner Burck received Honorable Mention for academic photography.

Three staff members also received the Gold Circle Award from Columbia Scholastic Press, Columbia University, New York.

According to Prichard the Gold Circle Award is one of the most prestigious awards a yearbook staff member can receive.

Ashlee Francis received a Gold Circle Certificate of Merit for her color spread, “In the Hot Zone.” Kelsey Newport provided the technical support for the winning spread.

Jesse Prichard received a Gold Circle Certificate of Merit for his spot color spread.

Last fall the yearbook was notified by the Herff Jones Publishing Company that the 2004 yearbook had been selected to be featured as a showcase yearbook in “Ideas That Fly,” a 128-page book of outstanding publications.

“Ideas That Fly” was printed in December 2004 and included The Outlaw 2004 yearbook cover, endsheet and examples of outstanding interior spreads from each section. The book also contained a directory that listed the school name, city, state, yearbook name, advisor’s name and editor’s name.

This is the second consecutive year the yearbook has won awards from Herff Jones Publishing, Northwest Scholastic Press and Columbia University.

Prichard said, “I’m really happy. It’s not just one year that we’ve won awards. It shows the ability and talent of new staff to create a winning book.”

She added, “Many thanks to our representative Bill Dube and Herff Jones who took our ideas and complemented the designs with color matching and design advice.”
