News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Baseball team wins two, loses one

The Outlaws defeated Stayton 5-3 at home on Monday, April 18. The game was slated for last week in Stayton but canceled because of rain. Fields were still soggy due to all the rain so the Eagles traveled to Sisters so the game could be played.

Cody Ramsey pitched the winning game for the Outlaws, recorded five strike-outs and gave up three runs on four hits. After the first three innings Ramsey held the Eagles hitless.

Stayton scored all their runs in the first inning to take an early 3-0 lead.

Sisters scored their first run in the second inning. Jeff Sampson doubled and advanced to second on a ground ball hit by Blake Poynor and scored on a grounder by Tyler Trask.

The Outlaws added a second run in third when Andy Burke’s double to left center drove in Ramsey and closed the Eagle lead to 3-2.

In the fifth the Outlaws drove in three more runs to take a 5-3 lead. Hits came from Ramsey, Burke and Stark.

Burke went 3 for 3 with a double and two RBI. Ramsey had two singles and Sampson a double.

“Defensively we’re playing really well,” said Coach Kevin Bigby. “In a game like today it helps us stay in the game until we can put some runs on the board.”

Just a day later, the Outlaws notched another win with their 11-7 victory over Molalla.

The Indians scored two runs in the top of the first but Sisters answered back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to tie it up at 2-2.

Andy Burke led off the third inning with a double. Austin Stark singled and then Burke scored on a passed ball. Stark scored on a sacrifice fly by Jesse Stevens to give the Outlaws a 4-2 lead.

The Indians tied it up again in the top of the fourth at 4-4. Sisters drove in four more runs in the bottom of the inning to stretch their lead to 8-4.

In the fifth Molalla was held scoreless and the Outlaws scored twice to take a 10-4 advantage.

The Indians got their final three runs in the sixth inning. Sisters added one more to go up 11-7.

Relief pitcher Nic Morton came into the game with two outs in the top of the sixth inning and struck out the batter to close the inning. In the bottom of the seventh Morton got the outs 1-2-3 to get the save.

Pitcher Jeff Fitter earned the win for Sisters and recorded seven strike-outs in the game.

Carter Davenport led the Outlaws offensively going 2-2 with a double and drove in three runs.

Burke was 2-3 with two doubles.

“We were opportunistic on offense tonight,” said Bigby. “We did a good job of converting in situations with runners on base through a combination of good situational hitting and base hits.”

Two days later the Outlaws lost 5-0 at North Marion.

Blake Poynor and Jeff Fitter were the only two players to get hits in the game.

The Outlaws are 4-4.
