Talent show raises money for sparrow

The Sisters High School Sparrow Club raised $500 for their local sparrow, Michaela Madsen, on Friday night, April 15.

Ten student performances provided entertainment for the evening. The performances were judged and the top three winners qualified to compete in the Regional Sparrow Foundation Talent Show in Bend on April 21.

Amanda Sarles took first-place honors. Sarles accompanied herself on the guitar and sang, “Traveling Soldier.”

Second place went to a great juggling act by Matt Bryan and Andrew Jenkins who juggled rings, balls, and clubs to music.

Kimberly Wilson dressed as Elphelba, the wicked witch from the Broadway play “Wicked.” Wilson took third place with her solo from that play entitled “The Wizard and I.”

The following acts rounded out the evening performances:

• Iris Powell – violin solo

• Lauren Armstrong and Shauna Ozbun – Abbott and Costello’s comedy routine, “Who’s on First”

• Whitney Kelleher – harp solo

• Nina Cartwright – vocal solo, “But I Do Love You”

• Travis Engstrom, Michael Charavalle, Jeff O’ Brien, and former student Nick Ficklin – their rock band performed an original composition

• Teresse MacKenzie and Lindsay Chick – jazz dance routine

Judges included Sisters School Superintendent Ted Thonstad, Mayor Dave Elliott and Young Life leader Tina Burts.

Sparrow advisor Kristy Rawls said, “I’m always so amazed at the effort and the range of talent our SHS students present.”

“The whole evening was planned and put together by an excellent, hard-working group of Sparrow Club students.

They went above and beyond in their efforts to bring in extra support for our sparrow,” said Rawls.
