News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Errors and a tough opponent on the mound cost the Outlaws in a 6-3 loss at Cascade on Tuesday, April 26.
After two innings Cascade held a 2-0 lead. Sisters tied it up in the top of the third when Austin Stark and Carter Davenport scored on a double to right center field by Tyler Trask.
The Outlaws got their third run in the fourth inning. Jeff Sampson walked and then scored on a double by Blake Poynor. After Sisters proceeded to load the bases with no outs the Cougars changed pitchers. Cascade’s Seney came into the game and struck out the Outlaw batters one, two and three. Seney finished with a total of 10 strikeouts in four innings.
Coach Kevin Bigby said, “Jeff (Fitter) threw a good game for us. If we could throw out a couple of our errors we would have probably won the game despite their great pitching.”
Fitter finished with six strikeouts in the game.
Two days later Sisters lost 6-4 at Stayton.
The Eagles got three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early lead. Stayton added two more runs in the second to push their advantage to 5-0.
“The runs in the second inning could have been prevented if we would have executed on a first and third situation,” said Bigby. “One of their players got hung up between third and home and we didn’t get the out.”
Sisters scored all four of their runs in the top of the fourth inning. Jeff Sampson singled to drive in two runs and then Ben Bushnell stepped up to the plate and hit a two RBI homer.
“Ben was in a hit-and-run situation, got the right pitch and made a great swing at it,” said Bigby.
Stayton scored their sixth and final run in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 6-4 lead and held Sisters scoreless the remainder of the game.
Cody Ramsey pitched the first three innings for Sisters and Nate Jackson came in for the last three innings.
“Nate gave up no runs in the final three innings to keep the game close,” said Bigby.
Andy Burke was 2-2 with a double. Bushnell had a single and a two RBI homerun. Sampson finished with a two RBI single.
