The Subdudes, one of the most exciting bands in the world of acoustic music, will headline the festival and rock the big tent on Saturday night, September 10.
Reunited in 2002 after a long hiatus, The Subdudes came roaring back, burning up the stage at festivals from New Orleans to Telluride with a powerful combination of fine songwriting, virtuoso instrumental chops and tight vocal harmonies. They promise to put on one of the most memorable shows in the long history of the Sisters Folk Festival.
From Vancouver Island on Canada’s beautiful West Coast come The Bills. This extraordinary quintet is renowned among folk music fans of all ages for their instrumental virtuosity, lush vocal arrangements, exuberant live performances, evocative songwriting, and refreshingly innovative interpretations of traditional tunes from around the globe.
Ruthie Foster’s songs are a remarkable hybrid of blues, gospel, roots and folk music rich with honest spirituality and emotion.
Foster’s vocal abilities have critics comparing her to Ella Fitzgerald and Aretha Franklin.
She will perform several sets, including leading a gospel program on Sunday morning.
The Festival also features legendary singer-songwriter John Gorka, Paul Thorn, Tracy Grammer, Misty River, The Foghorn Stringband and many other top-flight performers from the regional and national folk music scenes.
In addition, the Festival has a songwriting contest, a three-day Americana Song Academy, a Night Owl Showcase where artists and festival-goers can show their stuff in a relaxed party atmosphere, a Deering Banjo Pickin’ Contest, workshops and much more.
All tickets will be held in will-call (available at 3 p.m. on Friday, September 9 at the Village Green Main Stage). All tickets are general admission and on a first come, first served basis.
