News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Sisters took first place by 85 strokes at the golf tournament held at Aspen Lakes on Thursday, April 28. The Lady Outlaws finished with a score of 376. Madras was runner-up at 461 and Burns was third with 506. Crook County had an incomplete team.
Kayla Miller took medalist honors with an individual score of 82 to lead the Outlaws.
Krystal Fitter carded a 96, MacKinzie McClain a 98 and Brittany Reed 100. Alexie Wainwright scored a 102, Stephanie Pledger 114, Maureen Broadbent 119 and Kelsey Gillespie 128.
The team score tied their season best.
Coach Mary Flande told The Nugget it was nice to have a home match at Aspen Lakes.
“Kayla had her season low today with an 82,” Flande said. “We did eliminate some of the mistakes that we made on Tuesday and our team score reflected that effort. We still need to improve some on our putting but I think the kids will work hard on that in the next couple of weeks. We’re hoping to be ready by the district meet.”
Two days earlier Sisters took second at the Meadows Course at Sunriver with a team score of 389. Summit took first at 327. Third place was Redmond (398), fourth Hood River (429) and fifth was La Pine with 556.
Jessica Black of Summit High was medalist with a 3 over par 75.
Kayla Miller scored an 87 for Sisters and Krystal Fitter a 90. MacKinzie McClain recorded a 105, Brittany Reed 107 and Kelsey Gillespie finished with 123.
“It was a nice sunny day in Sunriver for golf,” said Flande. “Our girls thought they could have shot a little better as a team but we were able to find something positive about everyone’s game today. Kayla (Miller) turned in a strong back nine with a 41.
“We need to eliminate a few mistakes and improve our putting some and I think you’ll see the team score drop.”
