Should Sisters restrict formula food? (The Nugget, May 4)

From Judith Gustafson, Ojai, California:

I live in Ojai, California. No fast food franchises allowed in city limits. So they are now all clustered just outside the city limits in the unincorporated county — that all cars pass through to get here from Highway 101. Still an eyesore, but now the revenue and sales tax goes elsewhere.

NO! NO! NO! We do not need to look like every other town in the US of A. The less we fall to the pressures of the “norm,” which usually includes lots of conveniences which enables us to drive-in, drive-out with little contact with the people helping us, the faster we will loose the small town, sit-and-talk feeling that has brought many people to this area.

There are MANY ways that moms can feed their children in a timely way that would not encroach on the land and ambiance of Sisters. Let’s take a stand, be thankful for what we have and sad for every tree that loses its life every time a new building goes up.

If we need fast food….let’s bury it in an existing building….not have it be the first site that people see when driving into Sisters. Do we want to look and feel like every other town, or do we want to fight for our individuality? Is it easier to roll over and say “That’s progress” or have a say in the direction of our growth?
