News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Sisters crushed the Molalla Indians 12-2 Thursday, May 4, to break a losing streak and earn their first league road win of the season.
The Outlaws scored single runs in the first three innings and in the fourth Molalla scored two to close Sisters’ lead to 3-2.
Sisters blew the game wide open in the fifth and scored seven more runs to extend their lead to 10-2.
Coach Kevin Bigby said, “The runs came from a combination of walks and singles from Andy Burke, Blake Poynor and Hayden Mayea.”
A near flawless defense backed up Jeff Fitter, who pitched the entire game and finished with seven strike-outs and two walks.
“Weather was an issue for us,” said Coach Kevin Bigby. “There was drizzling rain and hanging onto the ball was important. It was wet picking it up out of the grass and so for us to make only two defensive errors was good.”
Burke went 2-3 with a double and three RBI. Mayea went 2-4 with a double and drove in two runs. Jeff Sampson also recorded a double for the Outlaws.
Two days earlier the Outlaws lost 9-8 at Sweet Home.
“It was a bummer,” said Bigby. “It’s the second time this season we’ve lost to Sweet Home by just one run. Last time we lost in the final inning when they hit a home run.”
Sisters had a chance to win the game in the seventh inning.
“We had the bases loaded with just one out but just couldn’t get the job done,” said Kevin.
Hayden Mayea, Nate Jackson and Andy Burke shared the pitching responsibilities.
“It was a good hitting game for us,” said Bigby. “We got 13 hits as a team.”
Burke went 3-5 with a double, triple and two RBI. Blake Poynor was 2-4 with a double and two RBI. Tyler Trask and Hayden Mayea both had two hits in the game and Trask drove in two runs. Jeff Fitter and Carter Davenport both had doubles and Fitter had two RBI.
“We had to pull up five kids from JV,” said Bigby. “They played for us due to injury and discipline issues and did a real nice job...”
