The Little Cloverdale Preschool turns 10

Parents know the cliché is true — time goes by so fast. But parents at The Little Cloverdale Preschool were still surprised to realize their co-op had hit its 10th anniversary.

“It doesn’t seem like 10 years ago!” said Kelly Cyrus. This mother has served on the parent-run board of directors and has appreciated seeing the quality of the program rise through the years.

“Things just keep improving,” said Cyrus, noting the teacher is “awesome” and the outside of the historic building along Highway 126 has been given some major upgrades including a large play structure.

Shannon Pollard has sent two of her boys to the preschool and has been active on the board over the years. She likes the co-op style preschool in which parents agree to help in the classroom two days a month.

She says high parent involvement keeps a good adult-to-student ratio.

“There are so many benefits to being close-knit,” said Pollard. “I love having the opportunity to go through some of the experiences with my children.”

Cyrus said the circle of children and parents who were with the school in the beginning has stayed in touch.

She added its fun to watch her children and their friends grow up together from preschool through elementary school.

“The friendships are enduring,” Pollard agreed.

Both moms have fond memories of field trips through the years — from the nearby Cloverdale fire station to the fish hatchery.

Cloverdale offers preschool to Acorns, or three-year-olds, and Pinecones, or four-year-olds. The program is taught by Ann Kauzlarich, known to her students as Miss Ann, along with parent helpers.

She wants to start children in the process of finding knowledge and give them “a great foundation.”

Parents can apply for scholarships that are paid for through the school’s fundraising activities such as their annual rummage sale.
