News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Two of the top rodeo bullfighters in the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association circuit, two popular rodeo announcers and an award-winning clown will perform at the 65th annual PRCA Sisters Rodeo on June 10-12, according to Bonnie Malone of the Sisters Rodeo Association.
Dangerous Dan Newman of Eatonville, Washington, and Rowdy Barry of Kennewick, Washington, will challenge the bulls and protect the cowboys during four rodeo performances.
This is Newman’s second visit to Sisters. He has been a bullfighter at many prestigious rodeos, including nine appearances at the National High School Rodeo Finals and five years at the Columbia River Circuit Finals. He has also been the champion of the Cowboy Safety Competition twice.
Rowdy Barry is a 19-year veteran of the PRCA and has performed at Sisters in the past. He is recognized by his trademark white Wrangler shirt, knee braces, and red-and-yellow socks. He wears no clown makeup, wanting the crowd to focus on his athletic ability in protecting the cowboys.
Wayne Brooks returns to the Sisters Rodeo this year as the announcer on horseback from his home in Casa Grande, Arizona. Brooks is a former rodeo contestant, commercial voice talent in broadcasting and rodeo announcer.
He has worked the Calgary Stampede, National Finals Rodeo, and many other rodeos throughout the West.
Announcing from the booth will be Curt Robinson from Pendleton, a frequent visitor to the Sisters Rodeo. Robinson grew up on his grandparents’ ranch near Fossil, and has been in the PRCA rodeo business for nearly 30 years.
He has announced at the National Finals, Women’s National Finals, American Junior Rodeo Association National Finals, and the College National Finals.
Rounding out this year’s line-up of rodeo personalities will be rodeo clown Flint Rasmussen from Choteau, Montana. He is the reigning PRCA Professional Rodeo Clown of the Year, having received that award for the past seven years.
Rasmussen has appeared at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas and performed at the 2002 Sisters Rodeo.
The Sisters Rodeo weekend starts with a Friday evening performance at 7 p.m. on June 10, followed by two performances on Saturday, June 11 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. The rodeo concludes on Sunday, June 12
