News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Friends of the Sisters Library (FOSL) is looking for new Friends to join the ranks of those willing to go the extra mile in support of their library system.
The new library is shaping up on the former site of Sisters Middle School. While the new facility is expected to serve the Sisters community better than the present library, it’s going to take a lot more people to make the wheels turn smoothly — and that’s where volunteers come in.
In the photo are two ladies who work hard making the library run: Norma Funai and Elayne Clark. Norma has been doing book sales for the past six years, mostly sorting children’s books. She has also been editor of Bibliotheque, the Friends newsletter, and recently retired as membership chairman of FOSL.
Elayne Clark is a prime fund-raiser for FOSL. At any given time, she can be found scooting around town with a load of Sisters Library Cookbooks and copies of the Sisters history book “That was Yesterday” in the trunk of her car. Funds from those books help pay for Friends projects.
The cookbook is in its 10th printing, which is a total of almost 6,000 books. And where does the money go? Much of it has been invested in the new library, which will be ready to serve the community in November.
If you want to become involved, you can get in on all this fun and good fellowship by attending the Friends annual potluck dinner that will be held on Monday, June 6 at 6:30 p.m. in St. Edward’s Catholic Church.
You do not have to be a member of the Friends to come and eat with the Friends and join in the Friends’ evening festivities — just bring a salad or dessert and a friend to become a Friend.
In the meantime, if you want to help Elayne, give her a call at 549-9780; she will welcome the help.
